Welcome to Final Fantasy VIII-2 (FFVIII-2.org), the role-playing community based upon the Squaresoft game for the PlayStation, "Final Fantasy VIII". Set roughly fifteen years after the conclusion of the game, FFVIII-2 is a community 'story', revolving around the independent military organisation, SeeD.

The focus of FFVIII-2 is the forums, where members 'role-play' stories, large and small, using original characters in the invented scenario of post-Final Fantasy VIII.

Don't worry if you've never played Final Fantasy VIII, or you don't know how to role-play yet - neither of these need get in the way. The stories of FFVIII-2 are built only on the foundation of Final Fantasy VIII - what this means is, though it is set in the world of the game, it is not a continuation of the story, so knowledge of the game is not necessarily required. Information on the game - useful to read up on before joining the forums - is provided on the website. After reading all information in the Essential Reading section of the forums, you're ready to join in.

For those who are daunted by the thought of role-playing with other people at FFVIII-2, this can be easily remedied. On the forums there are instructions on how to role-play at FFVIII-2. This is recommended reading for everyone, including those who are already confident with role-play.

As you will probably have noticed, the forums were down for about the last 24 hours for database updates. To my great frustration, the updates brought a series of errors, some of them fatal, forcing me to delete everything and re-install all the files a number of times to find the most stable replacement. The latest backup was from 5th December (for some reason the 7th December backup was corrupt) so, in a mini time-warp, we're back to that time. All custom images (e.g. avatars) have gone and will need to be uploaded again.

There may still be some problems, so please alert me immediately if you find one (such as an SQL error).

After all that, the database hasn't actually been updated. I had to restore the forums back to an old version of the software to get the backup to work properly. So after all that, it turns out that nothing has actually changed besides losing the last couple days' worth of posts. On the bright side, it's just as well there were multiple backups and we're back online.

After the last day of no posts, now would be a brilliant time to kick-start this again and get the show on the road regarding the main story discussion. Even if you have no ideas of your own, at least comment on others. Talking about your views outside that topic would be pointless because this is the only place where we can all discuss it together.[ l i n k ]
