rankings
In the FFVIII-2 forums, all accepted members (members with approved profiles) are given rankings. There are two categories of rank: cadets and SeeDs. Within these are sub-rankings. These rankings play an integral part in role-playing at FFVIII-2. Since all SeeDs must follow the SeeD protocol, characters must be role-played to adhere with this. Therefore, characters of a low-ranking must obey characters of a high-ranking. This is in ROLE-PLAY ONLY. Out of character, all members are of equal 'rank'. The character rankings therefore do not give automatic moderator status.how it works
To prevent power-playing, keep an orderly structure and for the sake of realism, rankings are given to members' characters. These rankings are based upon three factors: maturity in role play, contribution to the forums and following the rules. Of these, the former is most important. By role-playing well, with maturity, you stand the best chance of being noticed in a good way. Overpowering one's character and role-playing out of context, on the flip-side, render one's chances of gaining a ranking for the character unlikely. So long as you stick by the rules and role-play well continuously, your character will be considered for promotion. If you struggle with role-playing, seek assistance, otherwise it may come across that you don't really care. One's original ranking is based upon the quality of the profile submitted. The more thorough and thought-out your profile is, the more likely it will be that your chracter will be enrolled for a SeeD exam sooner. All primary characters (the character name used for registering) are automatically cadets. Characters under 16 are junior cadets unless an administrator promotes a cadet of this age. Characters of 16 and older are automatically senior cadets, though this can be demoted to junior cadet should the admin team not deem the character/member fit to be a senior cadet.
cadets
Cadets are basically students of Garden who have not graduated to SeeD. They take classes and study to become a SeeD. Every so often, exams are held for cadets who are deemed ready to take the exam by their respective instructors. The SeeD exam involves two missions and a written exam. Should a cadet pass the exam, they will be graduated to SeeD. There is no age restriction as to how young a cadet can be to take the SeeD exam. If the instructors (i.e. admin team) regard a cadet ready, they can be enrolled for the SeeD examination, regardless of age. However, once a cadet reaches the age of 21, they can no longer be enrolled for the SeeD exam and are removed from the system. This situation, though it does occur, is very infrequent. Most cadets graduate to SeeD around the age of 17 or 18. Should a cadet reach the age of 21, they can no longer be enrolled for the SeeD exam, therefore they can never become a SeeD. However, they can enroll for a different role at Garden, such as an infirmary worker or animal keeper.
Cadets spend all their time in Garden, except during holidays, weekends, external missions or excursions with permission.
seeDs
There are six types of SeeD: low-ranking, mid-ranking, high-ranking, officer, head SeeD and elite (in order from least influential to most influential). Over time, SeeDs are promoted or demoted based on their examples of combat, diplomacy and aid in the real world. Most SeeDs do not reach officer ranking, a highly influential ranking only given to exceptional SeeDs with great leadership qualities.
Though there is no set rules on the increase in influence as the ranking increases, the rankings do matter. Should your character be a low-ranking SeeD, for example, he or she will not be given many leadership roles and will be at the command of a higher-ranking SeeD. Basically, as long as you follow the SeeD protocol (see the SeeD/Garden page) and you do not power-play, you will be fine. The better you play your character's role, the more likely it is that a promotion will be in sight.
All newly graduated SeeDs are of low rank.
