time

Final Fantasy VIII-2 is set in semi real-time. This means there is a connection between time on earth and time in the RP world of FFVIII-2. Just as the seasons pass on earth, the seasons follow the same pattern on the forums. Not only does this affect the setting for each story topic, this also plays a key role in the life of the characters. As time passes, different locations will become available or unavailable for role-play, based on the main storyline and the running of Balamb Garden. Since the role-play is mostly based in Balamb Garden, it would not be possible for students to travel around the world as they please. This is where "holiday" periods come into effect. For roughly 13 weeks of the year, the Gardens grant their students holidays. During these periods, some places around the world normally inaccessible for role-playing become open, where students can literally go on holiday. Then when the holiday period is over, these places become closed again.
The reason for this time system is to keep role-play focused and more realistic. Students at Garden would not be able to go anywhere they please in the world were it actually existant in the real-world. The idea of this system is to keep things fresh - students could go on holidays to different places each holiday, experiencing different things each time, before coming back to Garden, where things settle in again. There are so many places in the world, being able to go anywhere at any time can be bewildering, and many places would remain empty. Balamb Garden is always open for role-play, no matter what time of year, as are the towns of Balamb, Timber (accessible by train) and Dollet (accessible by boat from Balamb Town).
the structure of the year
The seasons pass in Balamb as they do in the northern hemisphere of earth. Therefore summer is typically the hottest time of year, whilst winter is the coldest.
